I'm anti-social

So, it's already a month into the semester, and I've had a total of three conversations: (1) with Prof. Destina about Hebrew language and Judaism, (2) with Prof. Mboup (my math teacher last semester) about what I'm studying this semester, and (3) with Prof. Destina about what I'm studying this semester. Aside from that there have been a bunch of friendly nods to various classmates, a few "hi"s, and a lot of business-like conversation with the library staff. And I had some math-related conversations with the teacher and the guy in the tutoring center. But that's it. I don't think I said a word to any of my classmates besides for salutations. Oh yeah, I also had a quick hi-how-are-you conversation with this former-Satmar girl whom I haven't seen around since then. So that makes a grand total of four social conversations on campus in one month.

  2. TRS' brother-in-law's sister says about bloggers, "Nobody listen's to them in real life, so they make blogs."

  3. Former-Satmar girl huh? Sounds interesting. What you need to learn Mr. e is the art of small talk, that is of course if you desire small talk conversations.

  4. Yeah sounds like college for me...

Yeah she's funny... "People start blogs when they have things to say and nobody to listen."

    Yah Satmar girl!!

  5. Yeah man, you should try to get with that Satmar chick, I'm sure she's ok with Chabad guys! ; )

And sara is right, you've gotta' learn how to start talking about nonsense with strangers and hope they humor you. ..I've been trying it a bit here and there..

And: Yeah, blogging is pretty much for geeks. 'Normal' people actually TALK to each other!

  8. Don’t give in to the forces of darkness. I have refused to b/s all my life and still refuse. When the time comes, it will pay off (think of it like shomer negiah).

Next time come out to drinks with me, it'll do you good.
On a side note, I second the motion Yah E and Satmar girl!

  14. I don't think you're anti-social..it's just my humble opinion

  15. um excuse me, I believe I forced you into several unwanted conversations over last shabbos, and even into group conversations. do i mean nothing to you?

  16. @everybody #Satmar girl: If i actually saw her around, maybe we could talk. I don't even know if she's taking classes during the summer.

Sara: Small talk is a major pain in the butt.

LE7: misery loves company. If being anti-social makes one miserable, does one then want company? I suppose one does.

Altie: How is being anti-social fun?

CA: the problem is that by avoiding small talk, you don't necessarily increase the amount of real talk. If you don't do small talk, you're not gonna have anybody with whom to talk about the real stuff.

Mottel: You're spilled pissed because I engaged in scuplelessness instead of going to Pacific Standard with you and Chaim?

Mims: The circumstances happened to be good when we met.

Sebastion: I was counting conversations with people in school. Outside of school, i have indeed conversed.

  23. 'i always make good points.'

    at least someone thinks so

    ReplyDelete
  24. yup, i guess that would be me, since u obviously dont agree. but thats ok, i dont need you to agree with me.

  25. re:anti social. you have to be anti social in all social circumstances for it to count. otherwise, you're just reserved.
also, skip the small talk. it can serve a purpose, but its not neccessary for true socialization. in fact, it interferes with true socialization.
